Colombo is the capital of Sri Lanka. And it has a long history as a port on ancient east-west trade routes. It had been ruled successively by the Portuguese, Dutch and British in the past from 1505 to 1948 until Sri Lanka got the freedom . That heritage is reflected in its its architecture, mixing colonial buildings with high-rises and shopping malls, parks, play areas, beaches, star hotels. The imposing Colombo National Museum, dedicated to Sri Lankan history, borders sprawling Viharamahadevi Park and its giant Buddha.



The vibrant, jam-packed Pettah bazaar district's thousands of vendors offer everything from spices and tea to textiles and jewelry. Galle Face Green is an oceanside promenade popular for picnicking and strolling.As the new land to the colombo is under construction which is built on the see behind the south area of the colombo harbor, called as Port City. The city's diverse religious landmarks range from the ornate, red-and-white-striped Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque and the historic Dutch Reformed Wolvendaal Church to the Buddhist Gangaramaya Temple complex. International matches of cricket, Sri Lanka's national passion, are played at Premadasa Stadium and other many more play grounds.




 Its with number of universities with higher world ranking in all sectors of the education like Engineering, IT, Medicine, Commerce, Arts. And also lots of private campus are also there with good world rankings. Most of the big schools are also located within the Colombo like, Royal, Ananda, Nalanda, Vishaka etc. Most of the companies are also located in this area in almost all the sectors with higher world reputations.
